Quality varies among research-grade suppliers, so certificates of analysis and independent testing are important for verification. A typical certificate reports purity by HPLC, identity by mass spectrometry, appearance, and sometimes residual solvents or water content. AOD9604 is often sold as a research chemical not intended for human consumption, and labels can be inaccurate. Common misconceptions include treating the peptide as a form of growth hormone, assuming supplement status, or expecting approved-drug quality from unregulated products.
AOD9604 is commonly supplied as a white to off-white lyophilized powder. The powder is typically stored at -20 °C or below, protected from light and moisture, because peptides can degrade through oxidation, hydrolysis, or aggregation. If it is reconstituted for laboratory use, an appropriate aqueous buffer or solvent is chosen, and the solution is kept cold and handled to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. These practices support stability but do not imply suitability for human use.
Research interest in AOD-9604 often focuses on whether it can influence lipid metabolism without the growth-promoting or glucose-related effects of full-length hGH. This question remains unresolved, and findings depend on model, dose, and measurement method. Some reviews treat the peptide as a historical obesity candidate rather than an active therapeutic. Others cite it in discussions of peptide fragments, metabolic signaling, and performance-enhancing substances. Clear conclusions are limited by the small number of rigorous, independent human studies.
AOD-9604 has been investigated primarily as a potential treatment for obesity and related metabolic conditions. Early laboratory work examined its effects on fat cells, and later studies moved into animal models and human clinical trials. Some trials reportedly reached Phase II, but the program did not lead to an approved medicine. Published summaries often note that weight-loss results were modest or inconsistent. The full trial data are not all publicly available in detail.
Regulatory treatment of AOD-9604 has varied. In sports anti-doping, the peptide became widely discussed during a 2013 investigation into an Australian professional sports club. Authorities at the time debated whether it fell under prohibitions on growth hormone and related substances. Later clarifications and updated lists have addressed the compound in different ways. Anyone seeking current status should consult the latest applicable rules, and commercial supply for human use is not authorized in major markets.
| Property | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | White to off-white powder | Lyophilized form; visual inspection |
| Solubility | Soluble in water and aqueous buffers | Depends on pH, purity, and counterion |
| Typical storage | -20 °C or below, desiccated | Protect from light; avoid repeated freeze-thaw after reconstitution |
| Common analytical method | Reversed-phase HPLC and mass spectrometry | Purity by HPLC; identity and mass by LC-MS or MALDI-TOF |
| Common synonyms | hGH fragment 176–191; AOD-9604 | Names vary in research and product labeling |
Clinical development of AOD-9604 included trials in people with obesity. Reports from early-phase and mid-phase studies described modest or inconsistent changes in body weight. A phase IIb program did not meet its primary endpoint, and the compound was not approved for medical use. Differences in formulation, delivery route, and participant characteristics may explain some of the variation. Later investigations explored whether the peptide might have effects in other tissues, including cartilage.
Regulatory treatment of AOD-9604 is shaped by its classification as a peptide hormone. The World Anti-Doping Agency lists it as a prohibited substance, and many national anti-doping organizations adopt that list. It does not hold approval as a prescription medicine in the United States, the European Union, or other major markets. Products sold online are frequently labeled for research use only and may not undergo independent quality testing. Import and possession rules differ by country, so legal status depends on local law.
Proposed mechanisms for AOD-9604 focus on fat cells. Laboratory studies suggest the peptide can increase lipolysis, the breakdown of stored fat, and reduce lipogenesis, the formation of new fat. Unlike full human growth hormone, it does not appear to stimulate substantial IGF-1 production in the studies reported so far. Some evidence points to beta-adrenergic signaling, but the precise receptor targets and downstream pathways remain unresolved. The fragment is not thought to act through the classical growth hormone receptor.
Interest in AOD-9604 arose from attempts to separate metabolic effects from growth effects attributed to hGH. Early work explored whether the fragment could influence lipolysis or fat oxidation without promoting growth. Those questions remain partly unresolved because human data are limited and results have varied across studies. The peptide is not a hormone replacement for hGH and is not equivalent to hGH in clinical use. Its research history includes both laboratory studies and commercial marketing claims that are not the same as regulatory approval.
AOD-9604 is a synthetic peptide whose structure corresponds to a C-terminal segment of human growth hormone. It is often described as hGH fragment 176-191, a 16-amino-acid sequence. The peptide was designed to isolate a region of hGH associated with fat metabolism while avoiding the full hormone's growth-promoting actions. Laboratory and commercial materials typically present it as a lyophilized powder for research use. Its identity is defined by amino acid sequence, not by a single brand.
27 The Northern Alliance was outnumbered, outgunned, and undersupplied. It controlled only about 15 percent of Afghanistan. Senior U.S. commanders hoped at best that the Green Berets would boost Northern Alliance morale and help prevent the better-equipped Taliban forces from a further offensive until larger American forces could arrive. During the night of 18–19 October 2001, Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA) 595, a 12-man Green Beret team, plus two Air Force Combat Controllers, were airlifted from Karshi-Khanabad Air Base in Uzbekistan more than 300 kilometers (190 mi) across the 16,000 feet (4,900 m) Hindu Kush mountains in zero-visibility conditions. They rode aboard two SOAR MH-47E Chinook helicopters and were escorted by two MH-60L DAPs (Direct Action Penetrators). The Chinooks were refueled in-flight three times during the 11-hour mission, establishing a new world record for combat rotorcraft missions at the time. They linked up with the CIA and the Northern Alliance. They were greeted by CIA paramilitary officers from the Special Activities Division who had arrived only 10 days before. At about the same time, ODA 555 landed hundreds of miles south in the Panjshir Valley, and linked up with another Northern Alliance force. Within a few weeks the Northern Alliance, with assistance from the U.S. ground and air forces, captured several key cities from the Taliban.
== Biography == Born in 1937 in Rome, Mendes Nassi is descended from a line of physicians. His grandfather, Guido Aaron Mendes, directed the Red Cross Hospital in Rome during the 1930s. As Italian Fascist law instituted a regime of prejudice against Jews in Italy, he moved his family to Switzerland to await British permission to enter the territory of Palestine, later to become the state of Israel. These certificates were obtained with the direct intervention of Pope Pius 12th, a classmate and close friend to Guido. The family moved to Gedera in Israel where David’s father, Maor Mendes and his grandfather pioneered the treatment and obliteration of Tuberculosis in Israel. During the 1947–1949 Palestine war the family moved to Ramat Gan, where he graduated from Ohel Shem high school. During his time in Ramat Gan, he practiced fencing and went on to become captain of the Israeli team. He won all national foil competitions in Israel between the years 1955 and 1963. He then joined the army and married his childhood friend, Nili Shmueli. In 1965 David relocated with his family to the United States to continue his training. He remained in New York City until 1975 when he returned to Israel with his wife and two children, Ido and Sharone. His third child, Yonni, was born in Haifa a few years later.
== MrBayes software == MrBayes is a free software tool that performs Bayesian inference of phylogeny. It was originally written by John P. Huelsenbeck and Frederik Ronquist in 2001. As Bayesian methods increased in popularity, MrBayes became one of the software of choice for many molecular phylogeneticists. It is offered for Macintosh, Windows, and UNIX operating systems and it has a command-line interface. The program uses the standard MCMC algorithm as well as the Metropolis coupled MCMC variant. MrBayes reads aligned matrices of sequences (DNA or amino acids) in the standard NEXUS format. MrBayes uses MCMC to approximate the posterior probabilities of trees. The user can change assumptions of the substitution model, priors and the details of the MC³ analysis. It also allows the user to remove and add taxa and characters to the analysis. The program includes, among several nucleotide models, the most standard model of DNA substitution, the 4x4 also called JC69, which assumes that changes across nucleotides occur with equal probability. It also implements a number of 20x20 models of amino acid substitution, and codon models of DNA substitution. It offers different methods for relaxing the assumption of equal substitutions rates across nucleotide sites. MrBayes is also able to infer ancestral states accommodating uncertainty to the phylogenetic tree and model parameters. MrBayes 3 was a completely reorganized and restructured version of the original MrBayes. The main novelty was the ability of the software to accommodate heterogeneity of data sets.
This is academically illustrated through the classical Jain narrative of King Yashodhara and the dough rooster. In this ethical parable, a king compromises with a demand for ritual animal sacrifice by offering a rooster made of flour. However, Jain theology dictates that because the psychological intent to kill was present, the spiritual degradation was identical to killing a living creature. Scholars note that this narrative was historically utilized to establish that the institutionalization of meat-eating corrupts the psychological purity of a society, regardless of who physically butchers the animal.
== National variants == Similar meat and pastry recipes include the Czech klobásník, the Belgian worstenbroodje, the Dutch saucijzenbroodje, the German Münsterländer Wurstbrötchen and sausage bread in the United States. Hong Kong has developed its own style of sausage roll. Instead of having sausage meat wrapped in puff pastry like the traditional Western style, the Hong Kong style "sausage bun" (Chinese: 腸仔包) consists of a sausage wrapped inside a soft milk bread style bun.

The industrial potential of fermentation was outgrowing its traditional home in brewing, and "zymotechnology" soon gave way to "biotechnology." With food shortages spreading and resources fading, some dreamed of a new industrial solution. The Hungarian Károly Ereky coined the word "biotechnology" in Hungary during 1919 to describe a technology based on converting raw materials into a more useful product. He built a slaughterhouse for a thousand pigs and also a fattening farm with space for 50,000 pigs, raising over 100,000 pigs a year. The enterprise was enormous, becoming one of the largest and most profitable meat and fat operations in the world. In a book entitled Biotechnologie, Ereky further developed a theme that would be reiterated through the 20th century: biotechnology could provide solutions to societal crises, such as food and energy shortages. For Ereky, the term "biotechnologie" indicated the process by which raw materials could be biologically upgraded into socially useful products. This catchword spread quickly after the First World War, as "biotechnology" entered German dictionaries and was taken up abroad by business-hungry private consultancies as far away as the United States. In Chicago, for example, the coming of prohibition at the end of World War I encouraged biological industries to create opportunities for new fermentation products, in particular a market for nonalcoholic drinks.
Measurements over 10 pCi/L warrant only another short-term test so that abatement measures are not unduly delayed. The EPA has advised purchasers of real estate to delay or decline a purchase if the seller has not successfully abated radon to 4 pCi/L or less. Because the half-life of radon is only 3.8 days, removing or isolating the source will greatly reduce the hazard within a few weeks. Another method of reducing radon levels is to modify the building's ventilation. Generally, the indoor radon concentrations increase as ventilation rates decrease. In a well-ventilated place, the radon concentration tends to align with outdoor values (typically 10 Bq/m3 (0.27 pCi/L), ranging from 1 to 100 Bq/m3 (0.027 to 2.703 pCi/L). The four principal ways of reducing the amount of radon accumulating in a house are:
Intracrine signaling is a mode of hormone and growth factor action in which signaling molecules exert their effects within the same cell that produces them, without being secreted into the extracellular environment. The term intracrine was originally coined to describe peptides that either act within the cell that synthesized them or function after being internalized by their target cells. While this model was initially developed through studies on the intracellular action of angiotensin II, it has since been recognized as a fundamental mechanism applicable to numerous peptide hormones and growth factors. Unlike classical endocrine, autocrine, and paracrine signaling, where signaling molecules leave the cell and interact with membrane-bound receptors, intracrine signaling functions exclusively within the intracellular environment, often targeting nuclear or cytoplasmic receptors. This mechanism allows cells to autonomously regulate essential biological functions, including gene expression, differentiation, and survival. One of the most well-characterized examples of intracrine signaling is the local synthesis and action of sex steroids within immune cells, which modulate inflammatory responses and metabolic pathways. The intracrine hypothesis has been instrumental in predicting novel functions for peptide hormones and has generated significant insights with potential therapeutic implications.
== Plot summary == Reporter and amateur sleuth Joseph Rouletabille is sent to investigate a criminal case at the Château du Glandier and takes along his friend, the lawyer Jean Sainclair, who narrates. Mathilde Stangerson, the 30-something daughter of the castle's owner, Professor Stangerson, was found near-critically battered in a room adjacent to his laboratory on the castle grounds with the door still locked from the inside. She recovers slowly but can give no useful testimony. Rouletabille meets and interrogates several characters: the castle's concierges, Mr and Mrs Bernier; the old servant Jacques; an unfriendly inn landlord; and a womanising gamekeeper, and begins a friendly rivalry with France's top police detective, Frédéric Larsan, who has been assigned the case. Larsan suspects Mlle. Stangerson's fiancé, another scientist called Robert Darzac, to Rouletabille's dismay. More attempts are made on Mlle. Stangerson's life despite Rouletabille and Larsan's protection, and the perpetrator appears to vanish on two occasions when they are closing in on him, echoing Professor Stangerson's research into "matter dissociation". The gamekeeper is murdered during the second attempt. Ultimately, Larsan arrests Darzac who is charged with murder attempts. Rouletabille suspects that Darzac has secret reasons not to defend himself and he disappears to make further investigations.

==== Interaction with the GTPase Associated Center ==== The GTPase Associated Center (GAC) is a region on the large ribosomal subunit that consists of two smaller regions of 23S ribosomal RNA called the L11 stalk and the sarcin-ricin loop (SRL). As a highly conserved rRNA loop in evolution, the SRL is critical in helping GTPases bind to the ribosome, but is not essential for GTP hydrolysis. There is some evidence to support that a phosphate oxygen in the A2662 residue of the SRL may help hydrolyze GTP.
The skulls of American black bears are broad, with narrow muzzles and large jaw hinges. In Virginia, the length of adult bear skulls was found to average 26.2 to 31.7 cm (10.3 to 12.5 in). Across its range, the longest reported skull measured from 23.5 to 35 cm (9.3 to 13.8 in). Sexual dimorphism can be seen in the tendency for females to have slenderer and more pointed faces, and conversely, for larger cheek teeth in males. Their claws are short and curved, being thickest at the base then tapering to a point, and most often black or grayish-brown in color. Claws from both hind and front legs are almost identical in length, though the curvature of foreclaws tends to be greater. The paws of the species are relatively large, with the forepaws measuring 2.1–5.3 inches long (5.3–13.5 cm) by 2.1–5.6 inches wide (5.3–14.2 cm) and the hindpaws 2.8–8 in long (7.1–20.3 cm) by 2.5–6.9 inches wide (6.4–17.5 cm), which is proportionately larger than other medium-sized bear species, but markedly smaller than those of large adult brown bears, and even more so, polar bears. The soles of the feet are black or brownish and are naked, leathery and deeply wrinkled. The hind legs are relatively longer than those of Asian black bears. The typically small tail is 7.7–17.7 cm long (3.0–7.0 in). The ears are small and rounded, as well as being set well back on the head. American black bears are highly dexterous, being capable of opening screw cap containers and manipulating door latches.
== Clinical signs == The clinical manifestations of FPLV are variable based on the dose of the virus, the age of the cat, potential breed predispositions, and prior immunity from maternal antibodies, previous exposure, or vaccination. Most infections are subclinical, as evidenced by the high seroprevalence of anti-FPV antibodies among some populations of unvaccinated, healthy cats. The cats that become clinically ill are usually less than one year old, but older cats are also at risk. There is high mortality in clinically affected kittens, and sudden death can occur. Clinical signs usually develop in 4–6 days after exposure, but can show in 2–14 days. The virus infects and destroys actively dividing cells in bone marrow, lymphoid tissues, intestinal epithelium, and—in very young animals—in the cerebellum and retina. The virus primarily attacks the lining of the gastrointestinal tract, causing internal ulceration and, ultimately, total sloughing of the intestinal epithelium. Primary signs include:
In the context of nutritional science, red meat is defined as meat obtained from mammals, including beef, pork, lamb, mutton, veal, venison, and goat. Some sources also specify that the meat must be muscle meat, as opposed to organ meat. Red meat does not necessarily appear red in color. In culinary contexts, the term red meat is used more loosely to refer to meat that is red when raw. The term is used to refer to adult or "gamey" mammals, while that from young mammals (rabbit, veal, lamb) is white. Most poultry is white. Game is sometimes put in a separate category altogether (French: viandes noires 'dark meats'). The redness of meat comes from its myoglobin content. Some cuts of pork are considered white under the gastronomic definition, but all pork is considered red meat in nutritional studies. The National Pork Board has positioned it as "the other white meat", profiting from the ambiguity to suggest that pork has the nutritional properties of white meat, which is considered more healthful. Ostrich, emu, and rhea meat are sometimes referred to as types of red meat or "alternatives to red meat" . However, their nutritional characteristics differ significantly from the characteristics of other types of red meat.
That Florey was not a pathologist was not overlooked; the Scottish pathologist Robert Muir declared: "There is no pathologist named Florey." The faculty board decided to take a chance on Florey, and he was appointed on 9 December. He took up the appointment in March 1932. The Floreys moved for the fourth time in five years, this time to a Victorian manor on 1 acre (0.40 ha) of ground about 1 mile (1.6 km) from the university, which later became student accommodation with the name "Florey Lodge". The chair came with a salary of £1,000 (equivalent to £57,000 in 2025) per annum, but there was no provision for an assistant. He took Kent with him anyway, eventually securing 50 shillings a week (equivalent to £141 in 2025) for him from the Medical Research Council (MRC). Guy's Hospital in London offered Florey a chair in pathology in February 1933. This caused alarm at the university, for it had recently lost two of its senior professors through the retirement of John Beresford Leathes and the departure of Edward Mellanby to become the secretary of the MRC. The university officials did not wish to lose Florey as well, and they raised his salary to £1,200 per annum to induce him to stay. The Sheffield Medical School was small, with only about fourteen students each year. The lack of a first-rate pathologist was remedied when Beatrice Pullinger joined the staff in January 1934, and she became Florey's ally in successfully lifting the standard of research and teaching in the department. While Florey's main interest was lysozyme, he pursued other lines of research as well.

Lyophilized AOD9604 is generally kept at -20 °C or colder, desiccated, and protected from light. Reconstituted solutions are usually refrigerated and handled to minimize repeated freeze-thaw cycles. These are general laboratory handling practices, not instructions for human use.
Mass spectrometry, such as LC-MS or MALDI-TOF, confirms the molecular mass and can reveal sequence-related impurities. Reversed-phase HPLC is used for purity, and peptide mapping or amino acid analysis can support sequence identity. No single method establishes every quality attribute.
No. AOD9604 is a short synthetic fragment of the hGH sequence, not the full 191-amino-acid hormone. It lacks the regions that mediate hGH receptor activation and growth-promoting effects. Products labeled as AOD9604 should not be assumed to have the same properties as hGH.
No major medicines regulator appears to have approved AOD-9604 for human therapeutic use. It has been studied in clinical trials, but those programs did not result in a marketed drug.
